Heaven Hill Distilleries Trolley - Bardstown, Kentucky

Take a Tour on the Heaven Hill Distilleries Trolley in Bardstown, KY. Bardstown, Kentucky is known for its legendary bourbon, as well as the famous Beam family-run distillery named Heaven Hill.  The Heaven Hill Distilleries Trolley provides a historical tour of all points of historic interest in downtown Bardstown.  The trolley was custom designed to look like a historical replica of what may once have traveled the streets.  Beginning in 2004, the trolley travels on a daily basis taking tourists on historic and fun tours of the city.  Weddings, parties, and special groups may sometimes also rent the trolley for a fun form of transportation.  The trolley boasts intricate brass and dark wood finish detail, with a white oak interior.  Up to thirty people may fit on the trolley at any one time, and the tour lasts approximately one hour and twenty minutes.  The upholstered seats and “politician’s platform” on the back of the trolley are aimed at reflecting the true style of a turn of the century cable car.  The interior is air-conditioned or heated, to allow for year-round tours.  A 24-valve diesel engine powers the freight liner frame housing.

Perhaps the most notable characteristics of the Heaven Hill Distilleries Trolley tours is the fact that they are willing to provide customized routes when requested.  Examples of a special tour include themes surrounding the civil war points of interest, bourbon origins and families, historical architecture or southern religion.  Some groups may want to take a customized tour following genealogical information from their family, or famous families like the Beams from Bardstown.  The town has a vast amount of genealogical records in store, and some visitors will look for ancestors from the area before taking a tour.  In addition, special school field trips may be arranged to focus on current curriculum studies for subjects such as history, architecture and civic classes.  A tour stop is usually scheduled for the Bourbon Heritage Center Tour, where guests may taste-test the bourbon samples and learn more about Kentucky’s distillery heritage.  Every tour is narrated by a guide in period dress for added effect and atmosphere.

The starting point for any tour is located on the Court Square in downtown Bardstown, located between the Bardstown Welcome Center and Talbott Tavern.  Tours are available Tuesday through Saturday at 10 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m., and on Sundays at noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.  Tickets are $7 per adult. If you plan on spending a bit of time in Bardstown, consider HotelsCombined.com when reserving your hotel rooms.
